FUDGE BOTTOM PIE
1 env. plain gelatin
1/4 c. water
1/2 c. sugar
1 tbsp. cornstarch
3 egg yolks
2 c. milk
6 oz. semi-sweet chocolate chips
3 egg whites
1/4 c. sugar
1/2 pt. whipping cream, whipped
1 (9") unbaked pie shell

Soften gelatin in the 1/4 cup of water. Combine 1/2 cup sugar, the cornstarch, egg yolks, and milk in a saucepan. Cook over medium heat until thick. Remove one cupful. To remaining custard add the gelatin and stir to dissolve; chill until cool.

Add the chocolate chips to remaining cup of custard and stir to melt the chips. Spoon into the prebaked pie crust. Whip three egg whites until soft peaks form; then gradually add 1/4 cup sugar, a spoonful at a time. Whip to stiff peaks. Fold this into the chilled gelatin mixture and spoon over the chocolate custard in the pie crust.

Whip the cream and spread over the top. Decorate, if you wish, with shaved chocolate curls. Chill pie and serve.
