My sister is Gluten and Dairy free, and I've been searching for a dessert I can make for her birthday that doesn't require driving to the far ends of the earth for ingredients and 40 tries to get it right. A friend of mine made this last St. Patty's day, and I thought they were phenomenal. This recipe will be PERFECT for her birthday. Thank you!

This recipe is one Jean Campbell shared with me. I lost it in a move from Lex. Ky. to W.H. Ct. I've done so many different candies based on this recipe. I've dipped in chocolate, spread with P.B. or preserves My favorite i think is taking a can of cherry pie filling and picking out the cherries to dip in chocolate bark then using the filling to flavor the candy (i do make this in extra lg quanties)before dipping into chocolate bark, i've also flavored the candy with other flavorings, cocoanut, rice krispy type cereal (before candy stiffens), maple syrup too. Jeans favotite way to serve it was either rolled pinwheel style or sandwiched as a andies candy P.B or chocolate in the middle. Holidays are not the same without the Campbells and Jeans potato candy. I'm glad i found the recipe again.

My Dad made this every winter when I was a kid in the 50's, and I have searched for this candy recipe. Thank you so much ...what wonderful memories...

I grew up with potato candy as well as all my relatives. My grandmother did to, but never knew where it came from. Since bother her parents were full blood Irish, we always assumed it was an Irish candy. So checking the internet and this is my proof. I just made a batch for a party tomorrow. This sounds like old home week to me.

This is the best recipe I have found. I have made two batches so far this year. Other recipes did NOT explain the fact that it is SUPPOSED to liquify. I had always panicked at that point. My mother used to make this as part of the Christmas goodies at our home. This will now become part of my own tradition, as I make candies/cookies for friends and neighbors.

My mom used to make this when we were little. She has now passed away but she taught me how to make it years ago. I now have to make every christmas for my aunt esther as my mom used to make it for her (as she was my mom's little sister) esther says no one makes it like but me. Love you aunt esther.

Love love love this recipe always been one of my favorites......... I am going to try the food coloring idea for a festive feel......... The kids really love helping with this candy - great for them to help.

My grandma got this recipe from her fathers family and every Christmas she made it. I now make it for my husband every few Christmases. I love it. I look forward to having children of my own to share it with.

I looked and looked for this recipe. My dad used to make when I was little and all I could remember was peanut butter and powdered sugar. I didn't even know what it was called. Thanks so much for the recipe

I've been receiving this as a Christmas gift for years, never knew how it was made, so I tried it with chocolate confectioner's sugar on the outside - great, peanut butter and chocolate... just for a little change :-)

My mother made this when I was a child, she would use smooth peanut butter on half, then smooth peanut butter and sprinkle raisins and roll up. Great!

Has anyone tried making this using mashed sweet potatoes? If so, what did you think of them? I need to make something for a potluck in 2 weeks and it has to be on the theme of a build your own potato bar and salad.
