PINEAPPLE BARS 
For the crust:

3/4 c. soft shortening
1 c. brown sugar

Mix well. Sift and stir in:

1 3/4 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt

Stir in 1 1/2 cup rolled oats and mix well. Put half of mixture in bottom of 9 x 13 inch pan, greased and floured. Press and flatten to cover bottom of pan, spread with cooked filling. Bake at 400 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes.

FILLING FOR PINEAPPLE BARS:

1 can crushed pineapple with juice
1 1/2 c. brown sugar
2 tbsp. cornstarch
1 c. chopped nuts

Cook until thick and cool mixture. Put remaining part of first mixture on top of the filling.
