3 c. plain flour
2 tsp. vanilla
5 eggs
1 c. milk
2 3/4 c. sugar
2 sticks butter
1 c. vegetable shortening

Cream together butter, shortening and sugar; add eggs one at a time, beating after each. Add flour and milk alternately. Begin with flour and end with flour. Stir in vanilla. Bake in lightly greased and floured tube pan at 300 degrees for approximately 1 1/2 hours or until done.
