GRANDMA J'S CUSTARD CREAM
FROSTING
 
3/4 c. milk
1/2 c. sugar
1 c. whipped cream
1 pinch salt
2 egg yolks
1 pkg. unflavored gelatin

In a saucepan combine sugar and milk and pinch of salt; bring to boil and add egg yolks. Cook until thick, remove from heat and set aside. In small bowl dissolve gelatin in 1/4 cup cold milk. Add this to hot mixture and stir to dissolve gelatin completely. Cool completely then add whipped cream and spread on cake. Garnish with nuts and maraschino cherries or fresh strawberries or raspberries. This frosting is particularly good on angel food cake but also good on other cakes too.
