GRANDPA'S BREAD AND BUTTER
PICKLES
 
1 gal. cucumbers
2 onions
1/2 c. salt

Syrup:

5 c. sugar
2 tbsp. pickling spices
5 c. vinegar

Wash and thinly slice cucumbers. Slice onions and add to cucumbers. Add salt. Bury ice cubes in mixture. Cover and let stand 3 hours. Drain and rinse.

Bring syrup to boil and add cucumbers to syrup. Bring to boil again. Pack hot in canning jars. Let set for 6 weeks.
