CHEESE STRATA 
2 c. (3 slices) bread cubes, crusts trimmed
1/2 lb. sharp Cheddar cheese, cubed
1/2 lb. bacon, cooked & crumbled (ham or shrimp may be substituted)
1/4 c. butter, melted
1/2 lb. whole fresh mushrooms
3 lg. eggs
2 c. milk
1 tsp. prepared mustard
1/4 tsp. salt

Place half the bread cubes in a 1 1/2 quart casserole. Layer half the cheese, bacon and butter. Repeat layers and arrange mushrooms on top. Beat eggs, milk, mustard and salt; pour over the layered mixture. Set casserole in pan of hot water. Bake uncovered at 300 degrees for 1 1/2 hours. Note: This is better if prepared in advance and refrigerated overnight until baking time. 6 servings.
