OATMEAL DATE COOKIES 
1 c. chopped dates
1/2 c. water
1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/4 c. white sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
2 tbsp. milk
1 c. flour sifted with
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. salt
2 1/2 c. rolled oats

Simmer chopped dates in water until thick. Cool. Cream butter and sugars well. Add egg and vanilla; mix well. Add cooled dates. Sift together flour, soda, spices and salt. Add dry ingredients gradually with milk to creamed mixture. Stir in oats and nuts. Drop from teaspoon onto greased baking sheets and bake 12 minutes at 325 degrees. Makes 2 dozen.
