OLD FASHION SOUTHERN DRESSING | |
1 (3 or 4 lb.) chicken, stewed & boned 1 1/2 loaves of bread, toasted and crumbled 1 pan cornbread, about 1 1/2 cups mix 1 1/2 c. onion, sauteed & chopped Salt & pepper to taste 1/2 c. celery or green pepper, chopped 1 tbsp. poultry seasoning (more or less if desired) Combine: 2 c. milk Combine: 2 sticks butter Prepare chicken and breads (any kinds of bread, leftovers, etc.). Add seasonings to bread mixture, pour hot broth over it and let stand a few minutes. Stir well and add egg and milk mixture. Dressing should be very loose. Add more milk or water to make mixture thin. Layer chicken in dressing in baking dish. Bake at 400 degrees until set. Makes enough for several meals. Freeze extra in casserole dishes and it will be ready to bake. |
