CHEWY BROWNIES 
1/3 c. butter
3 squares unsweetened chocolate
1 c. all-purpose flour
3/4 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
3 eggs
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
3/4 c. chopped pecans or walnuts

Melt butter and chocolate together. Cool. Stir together flour, baking powder and salt. Beat eggs until light and fluffy. Gradually add sugar, beating until thick. Add chocolate mixture and extract. Add flour mixture, beating just until blended. Stir in nuts.

Bake in a well-greased 9-inch square pan at 350°F for 28 to 30 minutes. Cool on rack. Cut into squares.

Yield: 25 brownies.
