2 c. brown sugar, firmly packed (1 lb.)
1 c. butter
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
3 c. flour
2 tsp. baking soda

Cream sugar and butter; add egg, cream well and add vanilla. Add flour which has been sifted with the soda and mix well. Make into small balls, the size of your thumb. Place on baking sheet and press with a floured fork. Bake 10 to 12 minutes at 350 degrees. The recipe makes 8 dozen cookies.
