2 c. sugar
1/2 c. corn syrup
1/2 c. water
2 egg whites
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. salt
1 c. finely chopped nuts

Mix sugar, corn syrup, water and salt in sauce pan. Cook to hard crack stage (when a thread in very cold water cracks). Beat egg whites until they form stiff peaks. Gradually pour hot syrup mixture into egg whites while beating with electric mixer. Continue beating until it holds its shape. Add nuts if desired and turn out on a buttered plate or drop by spoonfuls on waxed paper. Cool.
