DEEP DISH APPLE PIE | |
12 tart apples, cored 1 1/2 c. sugar 1/4 c. all-purpose flour 1/4 tsp. salt grated rind of 1 orange 2 tsp. cinnamon 1/2 tsp. nutmeg 2 tbsp. lemon juice 1/4 c. (1/2 stick) butter 1 prepared pastry sheet (for top) Pare apples and slice thinly into pie pan which has been well greased. Mix dry ingredients and add to apples in pan, stirring in. Sprinkle with lemon juice and dot generously with butter. Cover with top crust and bake at 425°F for 10 minutes. Reduce oven temperature to 350°F and bake 40 to 45 minutes longer.
