APPLESAUCE CAKE 
2 1/2 c. sifted all-purpose flour
2 c. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 1/2 tsp. salt
3/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. allspice
1/2 tsp. cloves (ground)
1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. water
1 1/2 c. applesauce
1 egg
1/2 c. chopped walnuts (optional)
1/2 c. raisins (optional)

Sift dry ingredients into large bowl. Add shortening and water; beat 1 minute with electric mixer. Add applesauce and egg; beat 3 minutes. Stir in nuts and raisins.

Pour into greased and floured 13x9x2 inch pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 35-40 minutes. Cool. Serve with Cool Whip or ice cream.
