APPLE STRUDEL
1/2 c. milk
Pinch of salt
1 egg
1 tbsp. shortening
1 1/4 c. flour
4 apples, peeled and sliced (sprinkle cinnamon over fruit)
1/2 c. chopped pecans
1/4 c. coconut
3/4 c. sugar
1/2 c. graham cracker or cookie crumbs

Knead together the milk, salt, egg, shortening and flour. Work and pull dough until it is as thin as paper. Spread out on cup towel or cheese cloth. Brush dough with melted butter. Sprinkle on graham crackers or cookie crumbs and a very few soda cracker crumbs. Next spread on the sliced apples, the pecans, coconut and sugar.

Place some more butter on top and roll the dough with the cup towel (I use a bed sheet). Press edges together and place on a cookie sheet in the shape of a V or curve. Place in 235 degrees oven for 25 minutes or until crusty brown, spreading butter on top at intervals. When it is taken out of the oven, spread on powdered sugar icing or 1/2 cup milk and 3 tablespoons of sugar mixed together.
