BLOND OR BUTTERSCOTCH BROWNIES 
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. baking powder
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
1 cup brown sugar (packed)
2 eggs, beaten
1/2 tsp. vanilla
3/4 cup chopped walnuts or pecans

Grease 8x8x2-inch pan. Preheat oven to 350°F.

Sift flour, measure and resift with salt and baking powder. Melt butter in 1-quart sauce pan over low heat, add brown sugar and stir with wooden spoon until smooth then remove from heat. Cool slightly then beat in eggs until well blended. Beat in vanilla, then flour mixture until smooth. Stir in broken nuts. Spread batter in prepared pan to even thickness. Bake 20 to 22 minutes or until barely done. Cool in pan on wire rack.

Makes 16 brownies.
