GRANDMA'S NO-ROLL SUGAR CRINKLES 
1 c. butter (room temp.)
2 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
2 2/3 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
Sugar and water

Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs, one at a time, and vanilla. Sift together flour, cream of tartar, soda and salt. Blend into creamed mixture. Cover; chill 1 to 2 hours.

Form dough into balls, using 1 tablespoon of dough for each ball. Dip in sugar and place 2 inches apart on greased baking sheet. Sprinkle each ball lightly with 2 or 3 drops of water. Bake in moderate oven, 350 degrees, about 12 minutes or until just lightly browned. Remove at once to cooling rack.

Makes about 5 dozen.
