MAMMA G'S COLD OVEN POUND CAKE 
2 sticks butter
1/2 c. shortening
3 c. sugar
5 eggs
3 c. sifted flour
3/4 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. almond flavoring
1 c. buttermilk

Cream butter, shortening, sugar. Add eggs, one at a time, mixing. Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt. Mix together vanilla, almond flavoring and buttermilk. Alternate mixing dry ingredients and milk mixture into egg mixture.

Grease a tube pan and line bottom with wax paper. Scrape ingredients into pan and place in the middle of a COLD oven. Set temperature to 350 degrees. Bake 1 hour to 1 hour and 15 minutes. Run a knife around edges and cool in pan in pan 15 minutes before turning out on a rack. Freezes well.
