MIDNIGHT CAKE 
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. shortening
2 eggs
1 c. hot water
1/2 c. cocoa
1 1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. baking powder

Cream shortening; add sugar and continue creaming. Add egg and beat well. Pour hot water over cocoa and let stand.

Sift dry ingredients together and add alternately with cocoa mixture. Beat until smooth. Add vanilla. Pour into greased 9 inch square pan and bake at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes. Frost with White Icing.
