MACAROONS 
1 c. almond paste
1 c. sugar
1 tsp. grated orange peel
1/8 tsp. salt
2 egg whites, beaten stiff
Whole natural almonds and/or candied cherries

Blend almost paste, sugar, orange peel and salt by working with hands. Fold in egg whites. Drop by teaspoonful onto lightly greased cookie sheet. Press 1 whole natural almond or piece candied cherry into center of macaroon. Bake in 350 degree oven 15-17 minutes until light golden brown. Cool slightly. Transfer to rack to cool completely. Makes about 30 macaroons.

Note: Almond paste is available in "Solo" brand cans. Be sure to get "almond paste", not "almond filling".
