JAM THUMBPRINTS 
2/3 c. butter
2 egg yolks
1 tsp. salt
2 egg whites, beaten
Strawberry jam, grape jelly, etc.
1/3 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 c. flour
3/4 c. walnuts, chopped

Cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add yolks, vanilla and salt; beat well. Gradually add sifted flour, mixing well. Shape dough into balls; dip in beaten egg whites. Roll in chopped walnuts. Place one inch apart on greased cookie sheets. Press down center of each cookie with thumb. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 to 17 minutes. Cool slightly, remove from sheet onto wire racks. Just before serving fill centers of cookies with preserves or jelly.
