OLD FASHION RAISIN COOKIES 
1 c. seedless raisins
1 c. water
3/4 c. soft shortening
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
2 c. oats
1/2 c. nuts or coconut

Simmer raisins in the cup of water over low heat until the raisins are plump. Drain raisin liquid into cup. Add water to make 1/2 cup liquid. Save.

Cream shortening, sugar, eggs and vanilla. Mix dry ingredients. Add to creamed ingredients along with the 1/2 cup of liquid raisins were cooked in. Add raisins, oats and nuts or coconut. Drop by teaspoon onto greased pan 2" apart. Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until golden brown at 400 degrees. Yield 6 to 7 dozen cookies.
