BUTTERMILK PRALINES 
2 c. sugar
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. buttermilk
3/4 c. butter
1 tsp. vanilla
2 c. pecan halves

Combine all ingredients, except vanilla and pecans, in large buttered glass mixing bowl. Cover with plastic wrap. Microwave on #7 for 15 minutes. Stir and continue cooking on #7 for 13 to 15 minutes or until a soft ball forms in cold water. Be extremely careful when removing plastic wrap from boiling syrup to prevent steam burns. Add vanilla; beat with electric mixer until mixture forms soft peaks. Stir in pecans. Pour into 12 x 7 inch glass baking dish. Cool until firm; cut into pieces. Makes 40 to 48 pralines.

Since microwave ovens vary in power, you may need to adjust your cooking time.
