ITALIAN BREAD PUDDING 
1 sm. loaf raisin bread
1 qt. milk
1/2 c. white sugar
1/2 c. brown sugar
4 eggs
1 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. anise flavoring

Break bread into small pieces and place in a large bowl with milk and baking powder. Set aside.

Beat eggs then add anise and sugars until thoroughly mixed. Do not over beat. Add egg-sugar mixture to bread mixture. Add the remaining flavorings. Pour mixture into a glass baking dish that is greased and has a lid.

Place in a preheated 375 degree oven for about 45 minutes or until it is completely raised and is a custard consistency. Remove from oven and keep lid on until cooled. Turn over on a platter. Serve with sprinkled powdered sugar or whipped cream.
