SQUASH PUPPIES 
5 or 6 young tender squash
1 egg
1 med. onion, chopped
3/4 c. self rising meal
1/4 c. all purpose flour
1/2 c. buttermilk

Wash and slice squash, cover with water, cover pot. Bring to a boil and simmer 20 minutes. Drain squash in colander, let cool. Mash squash in bowl and add the above ingredients. Mix well, drop by spoonful into the hot oil and cook for about 5 minutes or until golden brown.
