APPLE BROWN BETTY 
1 c. sugar
1/4 tsp. ground cloves
1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg
1/4 tsp. salt
3 c. soft bread crumbs, divided
4 lg. tart apples, thinly sliced
1/4 c. melted butter
Whipped cream (opt.)

Combine sugar, spices and salt; set aside. Sprinkle 3/4 cup bread crumbs in bottom of a greased 2 quart casserole, add a layer of apples and sprinkle with one-third of sugar mixture. Repeat crumb, apple, sugar layers 2 times. Sprinkle remaining 3/4 cup bread crumbs on top. Pour melted butter over crumbs. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until apples are soft. Serve warm and top with whipped cream.
