DILL PICKLES 
Slice small cucumbers and soak overnight in cold water. Pack jars with slices leaving space at top of jar for the following. Place 1 clove of garlic, 1 hot cayenne pepper, 2 heads of fresh dill (may use 1 teaspoon dill seed) and 1/8 teaspoon alum in top of each jar, leaving space above jar ring.

Combine 1 quart red vinegar, 1 cup salt (pickling salt is better) and 3 quarts of water. Stir until dissolved, fill jars, and seal with hot seals.
