RED VELVET CAKE 
1/2 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. white sugar
2 oz. red food coloring
2 tbsp. cocoa
2 eggs
1 tsp. salt

1 c. buttermilk
2 1/4 c. plain flour
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vinegar

Mix soda and vinegar last and add. Don't beat, just fold in. Bake in 3 (9 inch) pans at 350 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes. Cool and ice.

ICING:

1 c. milk
1/4 c. plain flour

1/2 c. Crisco
1 c. white sugar
1 stick butter

Beat all together until fluffy.
