HAMBURGER SOUP 
1 qt. water
1/4 c. rice
1 c. shredded cabbage
1/2 tsp. basil
1 lg. can tomatoes
1/2 c. potatoes
1 bay leaf
1 lb. ground round
1/2 c. carrots
1/2 tsp. thyme
Salt and pepper

I also add chopped dry onion and a little garlic. Brown hamburger, drain off fat. Add water and tomatoes, and spices. In saucepan, steam carrots, potatoes in small amount of water. Add to soup shortly before serving, water included. Add rice and cabbage about 15 minutes before ready to serve.
