DATE & NUT LOAF 
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. chopped dates
1 c. boiling water
3/4 c. brown sugar
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. fat (Crisco)
1 egg
1/2 c. chopped walnuts
1 1/2 c. flour, sifted

Sprinkle soda over dates and pour boiling water over broth. Combine sugar, salt, fat and egg. Add nuts to date mixture and sifted flour. Put in ungreased pan and bake in 300 degree oven for 1 hour.
