GRANNY'S POUND CAKE 
2 sticks butter
1/2 c. Crisco
3 c. sugar
5 eggs
3 c. flour
1/4 tsp. Salt
1 c. milk
1 tsp. Vanilla extract
1/2 tsp. Almond extract (or 1/2 tsp. Lemon extract)

Cream shortenings together. Add sugar and cream together. Add eggs one at a time. Add milk and dry ingredients alternately, starting and ending with the milk. Add flavoring. Put in greased and floured pound cake pan. Cook one hour and 45 minutes at 275°F. Frost with Granny's 7-Minute Frosting.

Granny's 7-Minute Frosting:

2 egg whites unbeaten
1 1/2 c. sugar
5 tbsp. cold water
1/4 tsp. Cream of tarter (or 1 tbsp. Light corn syrup)
1 tsp. Vanilla extract

Put egg whites, sugar, water, and cream of tarter in upper part of double boiler. Beat with eggbeater until thoroughly mixed. Place over rapidly boiling water, beat constantly with beater and cook for 7 minutes, or until frosting will stand in peaks. Remove from stove, add vanilla and beat until thick enough to spread.
