1 c. shortening (part butter)
1 c. brown sugar
1 c. granulated sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
3 c. flour, sifted
2 tsp. cream of tartar
2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt

Cream shortening (part butter), brown sugar, granulated sugar, eggs, and vanilla. Sift and stir in flour, cream of tartar, soda and salt. Shape dough into 1 inch balls. Dip in granulated sugar. Bake at 400 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes.
