FILLED ICEBOX COOKIES 
2 c. brown sugar
4 c. flour
1 c. shortening
3 eggs
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda

FILLING:

1 pkg. dates
1/2 c. nuts
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. water

FILLING: Cook together over low heat until thick.

Cream together shortening and sugar. Add eggs and sifted dry ingredients. Divide dough in half. Roll each half on board. Fill like jelly roll. Roll in waxed paper. Chill. Slice. Bake at 350 degrees until brown.
