DATE FILLED COOKIES 
1 1/2 c. shortening (or 2 sticks butter)
2 c. brown sugar
3 1/2 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 c. water
1 tsp. vanilla
3 eggs
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cinnamon

Cream shortening, sugar, and eggs; stir in water. Add sifted flour and rest of ingredients. Drop by spoonful on cookie sheet. Make a indentation in middle with your thumb; put a 1/2 teaspoon filling in cover with a little more dough. Bake at 350 degrees for 10-15 minutes.

FILLING:

2 c. dates or raisins (should be ground)
3/4 c. sugar
1/2 c. nuts
2/3 c. water

Cook until thick. Cool!
