DATE FILLED COOKIES 
1 3/4 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. sugar

Cut in 1/2 cup butter. Blend in 1 egg; 2 tablespoon milk, 1 teaspoon vanilla. Mix until smooth. Roll out 1/8 inch thick. Cut with cutter. Place tablespoon filling on round cookie, then top with another round.

FILLING:

1 1/2 c. chopped dates
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. water

Combine in saucepan. Bring to boil, boil approximately 5 minutes. Remove from fire, add 1 tablespoon lemon juice, a pat of butter. Set aside until ready to ready to fill cookies.
