GINGERBREAD COOKIES 
1 c. shortening
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tbsp. vinegar
1 egg
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 c. granulated sugar
1 c. molasses
5 c. sifted flour
1 tbsp. ginger
1 tsp. cloves, ground

Sift together all dry ingredients except sugar and salt. Cream sugar, shortening and salt. Add egg, molasses, vinegar. Add dry ingredients. Mix well. Chill about 3 hours. Roll to 1/8 inch on floured surface. Cut into shapes. Place 1 inch apart on greased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for 6 minutes. Cool slightly, then remove from cookie sheet.
