OLD TIME BEEF STEW 
2 lbs. beef stew meat
2 tbsp. shortening
1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
1 clove garlic
1 med. onion
1 tbsp. salt
1 tsp. sugar
1 or 2 bay leaves
1/2 tsp. paprika
1/4 tsp. pepper
Dash of cloves or allspice
6 carrots, quartered
4 potatoes
1 sm. onion (white canned)
3 tbsp. flour

Brown meat in shortening, add 2 cups hot water and next nine ingredients. Cover and cook 1 1/2 hours and add vegetables, cover and cook 45 minutes. Blend 1/3 cup cold water into 3 tablespoons flour
