UNUSUAL FRUITCAKE 
1 lb. mixed candied fruits (more if desired)
1/4 c. orange juice
3 c. all purpose flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. mace
Melted jelly and brandy
2 c. chopped nuts
3 c. seedless raisins (some dates)
1 c. brown sugar
1 c. white sugar
2 c. water
1/4 c. shortening
3 tsp. baking powder

Prepare fruit; soak in orange juice 10 minutes. Sift together flour, salt and spices. Combine with candied fruits and nuts. Mix together raisins, brown and white sugar and water in saucepan. Boil 5 minutes. Add the shortening to mixture. Cool. Add this to flour mixture and mix well. Line sides and bottom of pan with greased brown paper, or unlined tube pan. Bake in slow oven 300 degrees for 3 hours or until done. Remove from oven and add jelly and nuts on top. Return to oven for 10 minutes. When cold wrap in brandy.
