BREAD & BUTTER PICKLES 
6 qts. thinly sliced cucumbers
1/2 c. salt
6 med. onions, sliced
2 to 3 doz. ice cubes
1 qt. vinegar
2 tbsp. celery seed
2 tbsp. mustard seed
2 tsp. turmeric
2 c. water
4 c. sugar

Layer cucumbers, salt and onions in a large container, cover with ice cubes. Let set 3 hours and drain. Combine remaining ingredients in a large saucepan. Bring to a boil, stirring until sugar is dissolved. Boil 3 minutes.

Add cucumbers and onions. Bring to just below boiling. Pour into hot jars, seal and process in a boiling waterbath for 10 minutes.
