CHOCOLATE KISS COOKIES 
1/2 c. butter, softened
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 c. unsifted flour
1/3 c. unsweetened cocoa
1/2 tsp. baking soda
Vanilla frosting (optional)
1 c. sugar
1 egg
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 c. milk
36 Hershey's Kisses

Combine butter, sugar, egg and vanilla in large mixing bowl until well blended. Add flour, cocoa, baking soda and salt alternately with milk, beating until combined. Roll into 1 inch balls (chill dough 20 minutes if too soft to handle). Place on ungreased cookie sheet; bake at 375 degrees for 10-12 minutes. Cool 1 minute on cookie sheet.

(Spread vanilla frosting onto warm cookies, leaving 1/2 inch edge, if you use this option). Immediately place Kiss in center of each cookie pressing down lightly. Carefully remove from cookie sheet onto wire rack; cool completely.

VANILLA FROSTING:

1 1/2 c. confectioners' sugar
1 tbsp. shortening
1/2 tsp. vanilla
2 tbsp. milk

Combine in small mixing bowl; beat until of spreading consistency.
