FARM STYLE OATMEAL COOKIES 
2 c. brown sugar
1 c. shortening or lard
1/2 c. buttermilk + few tbsp.
1 tsp. vanilla
4 c. quick cooking oats
1 3/4 c. all purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda
3/4 tsp. salt
Raisins (opt.)
1 tsp. cinnamon (opt.)

Heat oven to 375 degrees. Mix brown sugar, shortening, buttermilk and vanilla in large bowl. In small bowl mix flour, salt and baking soda. Add to creamed mixture. Stir in oats, mix well. Add raisins and cinnamon if desired. Shape into 1" balls. Place about 3" apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Flatten with bottom of glass dipped in water. Bake until golden brown about 8 to 10 minutes. Immediately remove from cookie sheet. Makes 3 to 7 dozen.
