BEER BREAD
1 pkg. yeast
1/4 c. water
3/4 c. milk, lukewarm
1/4 c. sugar
1 tsp. salt
1 egg
1/4 c. shortening
3 1/2-3 3/4 c. flour

Soften yeast in lukewarm water. Mix lukewarm milk, sugar and salt. Add softened yeast mixture. Stir until dissolved. Stir in egg, shortening and half the flour. Add remaining flour and knead on lightly floured surface. Place in greased bowl, turning once. Cover with damp cloth and place in warm spot. Let rise until double. Punch down. Let rise until double again. Roll out 1/2 inch thick. Let rise until light.

Fry in hot fat at 375 degrees until light brown, turning with tongs. Frost with powdered sugar glaze or shake in bag with white sugar. (This says it makes 18 - I always double.) (One 2 pound bag of powdered sugar made up will glaze a double batch.)
