MOM'S SOFT SUGAR COOKIES 
2 c. sugar
4 eggs
1 c. melted shortening
1 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
4 1/2 c. flour
4 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking powder

Cream the sugar and eggs together. Next, mix in the melted shortening, milk and vanilla. Sift the remaining dry ingredients together and add to the previously mixed ingredients. You may need to add more flour to get a fairly stiff dough for rolling out. Dough will stiffen if you let it sit for awhile before rolling out. Roll a portion of the dough to about 1/4 inch thickness and cut with favorite cookie cutters. Bake at 350 to 375 degrees until slightly browned or until no imprint remains when cookies are touched lightly with finger.
