1 c. shortening
2 c. white sugar
3 eggs, beat in one at a time
1 c. buttermilk
4 c. flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla

Mix shortening and sugar until creamy then beat eggs in one at a time. Add buttermilk, beat again. Add dry ingredients and vanilla. Mix well. Bake 350 degrees until just brown or the way you like them. Drop on a floured cookie sheet and sprinkle sugar on top before baking.
