DELICIOUS DATE PUDDING 
1 c. boiling water
1/2 pkg. pitted dates (1 c. cut in sm. pieces)
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. sugar
1 1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. walnut meats, cut in sm. pieces
1 tbsp. butter
1 egg
1 tsp. baking powder

Add baking soda to dates and cover with boiling water. Cool. Melt butter and add to sugar. Add well-beaten egg. Beat all together and add the sifted dry ingredients. (I alternate the liquid with the dry ingredients.) Pour into 8 x 8-inch or 9 x 9-inch well-greased pan. Bake in slow oven (350 degrees) for about 45 minutes. Remove from oven and pour over the following frosting, without removing pudding from pan.

FROSTING:

1/2 c. sugar
1/2 pkg. dates (1 c. cut in sm. pieces)
3/4 c. boiling water

Boil mixture slowly for about 15 minutes and pour over hot pudding.
