CHOCOLATE MICE COOKIES 
3/4 c. sugar
1/2 c. butter, softened
1/2 c. shortening
1 tsp. vanilla
1 egg
2 1/4 c. flour
1/4 c. unsweetened cocoa
1/2 tsp. baking powder
Miniature chocolate chips
Red or black string licorice, cut into 2 inch pieces for tails

Heat oven to 325 degrees. In large bowl beat sugar, butter and shortening until light and fluffy. Add vanilla and egg, blend well. Put flour into measuring cup, level off. Stir in flour, cocoa and baking powder, mix well. Shape dough into 1 inch balls.

To form mouse, pinch one end of ball to form nose. For ears make 2 tiny balls and flatten slightly. Gently press into dough. Just below the ears put chocolate chips for eyes. Place cookies on ungreased cookie sheet 2 inches apart and cook for 8 to 13 minutes or until set. Immediately place piece of licorice into rounded end of cookie. Remove from cookie sheet. Makes 3 dozen.
