DARK FRUIT CAKE 
1 lb. seedless raisins
1 1/2 c. water
1 1/2 c. sugar
1/4 c. shortening, butter or oil
2 eggs
2 1/2 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1 c. sour milk or buttermilk
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp., nutmeg
1 c. candied fruit
1/2 c. nuts
1/2 c. candied cherries

Pour boiling water over raisins and then drain. Cream butter or shortening together. Add eggs. Add dry ingredients alternately with liquid and add fruit. Pour in greased and floured tube pan. Bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour.
