BUTTERMILK CAKE 
1 c. butter
2 c. sugar
4 eggs, separated
3 c. sifted cake flour
Egg whites
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. vanilla

Cream butter and sugar. Add egg yolks, one at a time. Sift dry ingredients together and add alternately with buttermilk and vanilla. Add beaten egg whites and fold.

Bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes in 9 x 13 inch pan. Remove from oven, spread with topping and put under broiler for about 1 minute until brown.

TOPPING:

Melt 3 tablespoons butter.

Add: 3 tbsp. sweet cream 1 heaping c. nuts & coconut
