APPLE ROLL 
2 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tbsp. shortening
3/4 c. (approx.) milk

APPLE ROLL SAUCE:

2 tbsp. flour
1 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
2 tbsp. butter
1 1/2 c. hot water
1 tsp. vanilla

Sift the flour, baking powder and salt. Cut in the shortening and add sufficient milk to moisten (about 3/4 cup). Roll out on a floured board to a thickness of one half inch. Spread the dough with butter and add a layer of finely chopped, pared and cored apples. Sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon. Roll up like a jelly roll. Cut in slices and put cut side down in a buttered pan. Pour the following sauce over these.

APPLE ROLL SAUCE: Mix flour with sugar and cinnamon. Add butter and hot water. Flavor with vanilla. Bake in a moderate oven for 35 minutes until apples are tender and brown. Serve with a rich cream.
