ONE - DISH MEAL 
1 lb. hamburger
2 onions, peeled & cut in 1/8 inch slices
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
3 lg. raw potatoes, peeled & diced into 1/2 inch pieces
3 lg. carrots, peeled & diced into 1/2 inch pieces
1 c. precooked rice
Water to cover

Brown the hamburger in a skillet until it loses its reddish color. Add the onions and continue to cook until they are glazed and transparent. Add the salt and pepper.

In a greased 1 1/2 quart casserole, place the potatoes first; follow with a layer of carrots, then a layer of rice. Last, add the sauteed meat and onion mixture. Pour on enough water to cover. Leave the casserole uncovered an place in a 350 degree oven for 1 hour. Serve hot, right from the casserole.

VARIATIONS:

Substitute 1 (#2) can of peas and carrots for the raw potatoes. Substitute 1 (#2) can boiled onions for the fresh onions; leave them whole. Substitute 1 (#2) can of boiled potatoes for the fresh ones; leave them whole. Substitute 1 (#2) can of corn, cream or niblet style for the carrots. Substitute 1 (8 ounce) package fine egg noodles (uncooked) for the rice.
